Until Sarah Palin was chosen as his running mate, I'd thought the only way that McCain could get me out to vote in November was to nominate Romney. I've changed my mind. I'll be voting the McCain ticket to set up Sarah Palin for a future presidency. I don't like McCain any more than I used to. He's still just Lieberman with an R next to his name. However, he's in his seventies, and would be eighty by the end of a second term. Granted, he's the picture of health, but if the office does to him what it's done to Bush, I don't expect him to make it. Man, that's got to be the most stressful job imaginable, after teaching in a public school.
Palin is a conservative. That's all I wanted. Romney, with the exception of his health care experiment, was the only real conservative in the race. That's why he got my vote. I always vote for the most conservative candidate, and never get what I want in the primaries. I voted for Alan Keyes three times, and look where that got me: nowhere. Had Sarah Palin run in the primary, it would have been a toss-up between her and Romney. Huckabee, for all of his social conservatism, is a fiscal liberal. Giuliani is Republican only on the war. And McCain... Don't get me started.
So, yes, I'm endorsing the McCain ticket. I'll admit it; Obama would be a disaster. I believe we'd survive, but why go through the pain for nothing?
